Tie Curriculum To Students' Interests

Teaching with thematic units offers amazing ways to really engage your students and make your lessons as cross-curricular as possible. This is especially beneficial if you teach every subject in your classroom. It’s easier (and more fun!) than you think—we suggest tapping into your students’ interests. In Ashley’s case, her students seemed to have a special interest in coffee shops, so she sat down and began to brainstorm how to make a “coffee shop” theme fit every subject she instructs. For her ELA lesson, she prompted students to read a study about how caffeine affects the body—leading to a cause-and-effect activity and teaching about different text structures. To supplement her next lesson on long division, she created math problems in a menu—creating a fun and unique opportunity for extended math practice. As you start preparing another unit of lessons, ask yourself: “How can I connect the curriculum I need with a student interest theme?” For more teaching inspiration, check out: Ashley L. – Learning With Miss Lagrow Follow her on Instagram @learningwithmisslagrow https://ift.tt/2RGyYQw To find out other fun tips, free resources, and more, make sure to visit our website: https://ift.tt/2m4xDWo https://ift.tt/36FKLCD support@endlesssupplies.biz (Endless Supplies .Biz) January 30, 2020 at 12:46PM
