Whether your day consists of one class or several, it’s important to keep students on track and on task. “Bell work” is a great idea for when students first enter your class. Have a prompt already written on the board; this can be academic (like open your workbooks and complete page 5) or non-academic (like creative journaling or organizing their desks).
